While fitness trends and wellness routines fill our feeds, many of us overlook the most important part of our health: our soul.
This summer, we’re inviting you into something deeper—a pursuit of the Word of God. We’re going to dive into Psalm 119 as a church with weekly readings. The longest chapter in the Bible, Psalm 119, is a picture of the value and beauty of Scripture, organized from A to Z.
It’s not just long—it’s deliberate. In Hebrew, Psalm 119 is structured as an acrostic, using each letter of the alphabet from Aleph to Tav. Why? Because every part of life, from beginning to end, should be shaped by God’s Word.
God’s Word: Living, Active, and Transforming
The Bible isn’t static. It breathes.
Jesus said, “The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (John 6:63). Hebrews 4:12 echoes this truth: “The word of God is living and powerful… a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
When we engage with Scripture, it doesn’t just speak to us—it examines us. It reads us, reveals us, and renews us. It reaches into our past to cleanse us, directs our present steps, and prepares us for what God has in store.
God’s Word is both a mirror and a sword. It shows us who we are, and more importantly, who we are becoming.
The Renewing Work of the Word
Romans 12 challenges us to be “transformed by the renewing of [our] minds.” This isn’t an overnight change. It’s a lifelong process of reorienting our thoughts and habits around God’s truth.
Renewal doesn’t happen through casual attention. Halfhearted habits won’t produce wholehearted transformation.
This is a call to full devotion—to dig in, not dabble. God’s Word isn’t a supplement; it’s the source of life.
Training for Godliness: A Practical Approach
If we want to grow in godliness, we need more than good intentions—we need a plan. Here’s a practical method to help you engage with Scripture consistently:
The R.A.M.P. Method
Read – Open the Bible daily with expectation.
Apply – Ask how what you’re reading intersects with your current circumstances.
Meditate – Let the truth settle in your heart and shape your thinking.
Pray – Turn what you’ve read into personal conversation with God.
As we practice this rhythm, the Holy Spirit brings the Word to life, applying it where we need it most.
Don’t Take the Word for Granted
In parts of the world, access to Scripture is restricted or dangerous. Yet many of us have multiple Bibles and instant digital access. The question isn’t whether we can read the Word—it’s whether we treasure it.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
In a world full of noise and confusion, Scripture brings clarity. It grounds us when life feels unstable. It comforts, corrects, and calls us forward in faith.
Take the First Step
Getting spiritually strong doesn’t happen overnight. But it does begin with a simple decision—to open your Bible, invite the Holy Spirit to speak, and believe that God’s Word can truly shape your life.
This is your invitation: Let the Word of God shape your life—from A to Z.

Here's a 5-day devotional guide based on this sermon:
Day 1: The Power of God's Word
Reading: Psalm 119:9–16
Devotional: As we begin this journey, let's reflect on the transformative power of God's Word. The psalmist asks, "How can a young person stay on the path of purity?" and answers, "By living according to your word." God's Word isn't just ancient text; it's alive and active, capable of cleansing our past, guiding our present, and shaping our future. Today, consider how you can hide God's Word in your heart. Perhaps memorize a verse that speaks to you, or write it down to meditate on throughout the day. Remember, half-hearted attention won't bring wholehearted transformation. Approach the Scriptures with reverence and expectation, allowing them to renew your mind and transform your life.
Day 2: Spiritual Fitness
Reading: 1 Timothy 4:7–8
Devotional: Just as we exercise our bodies, we must also exercise our spirits. Paul reminds us that while physical training has some value, godliness has value for all things. How are you prioritizing your spiritual fitness? Today, challenge yourself to "work out" spiritually. This might mean setting aside dedicated time for prayer, fasting from something that distracts you from God, or intentionally applying a biblical principle to a situation in your life. Remember, spiritual growth doesn't happen by accident—it requires intentional effort and discipline. As you focus on spiritual fitness, trust that God is strengthening you for His purposes.
Day 3: The Blessing of Obedience
Reading: Joshua 1:7–9
Devotional: Success and prosperity in God's eyes are directly linked to our obedience to His Word. Joshua was instructed to keep the Book of the Law always on his lips, to meditate on it day and night, and to be careful to do everything written in it. This wasn't just good advice; it was the key to his success. Today, examine your life. Are there areas where you're resisting God's instructions? Where might you need to align your actions more closely with His Word? Remember, obedience isn't about earning God's love—it's about positioning ourselves to receive the fullness of His blessings and to walk in the purpose He has for us.
Day 4: Renewing Our Minds
Reading: Romans 12:1–2
Devotional: Paul urges us not to conform to the pattern of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This transformation doesn't happen overnight—it's a process of replacing old thought patterns with God's truth. Today, pay attention to your thoughts. When you catch yourself thinking in ways that don't align with God's Word, consciously replace those thoughts with biblical truth. Maybe it's countering self-doubt with God's affirmations of your worth, or replacing worry with trust in His provision. As you practice this, you'll begin to discern God's will more clearly and experience the peace that comes from a mind aligned with His.
Day 5: Finding Strength in God's Presence
Reading: Psalm 46:1–7
Devotional: In a world full of chaos and uncertainty, God remains our refuge and strength. This psalm reminds us that even when everything around us is shaking, God is our unshakeable foundation. Today, whatever challenges you're facing, intentionally seek God's presence. Take time to be still and know that He is God. Perhaps journal about a time when you experienced God's strength in weakness, or pray specifically for His peace to guard your heart and mind. Remember, God's presence isn't just a comfort—it's a mighty force that can calm any storm in your life. As you conclude this reading plan, commit to making God's presence your daily refuge.
